Pharma Machinery

PHARMA MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT’S

In the year 1960-70, the Indian pharmaceutical industry uses to import Pharma machinery from Europe. In the year 1970 India went through a severe shortage of foreign exchange and due to this reason, the Indian government introduced very high import duties and restrictive import licensing policies in order to discourage import of machinery and prompt Indian Pharma industry to work out a solution at home, in India. This act forced all the pharmaceutical companies to come up with some engineering work in order to manufacture machines locally. Indian Pharma industry has no other way out to get out of this situation and to cater to growing demand for the domestic Pharma industry.
With this step of the Indian government, the Indian Pharma industry managed to get independence from foreign machinery and now the fact is that India produces 75 per cent of Pharma machinery. This is not the end of the story, India in last 4 decades became the fifth largest producer of drugs after United States, Japan, Europe and China.

Pharma Machinery

Pharma API Industry

PHARMA API AND RAW MATERIAL

Pharmaceutical raw material means active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and its inactive partner in a drug called Excipients. APIs are bulk drugs and its API which generate a pharmacological effect, which means that it produces desired result against a particular disease in the body, hence termed as pharmaceutically active drug whereas, Excipients are pharmacologic-ally inactive substances and their role is to carry active drug i.e. API, in the drug.

Pharma API and Excipients

Pharmaceutical Excipients

Different Excipients plays a different role in formulations. It added bulk to a drug, facilitate absorption of the drug, keeps drug stable and also arrests degradation of drugs. Pharmaceutical excipients are not costly hence they are considered to be cost-effective, stable, easy to handle and by nature they are inert. Excipients are used in almost all medications such as tablets, capsules, liquids, inhalers, Ointments, implants, sachets and injections.
A report published by ASD states that global pharmaceutical excipients market is increasing due to a hike in demand for oral drugs, which means more oral drugs manufactured results in generating demand for Excipients. Various factors such as an increase in patient compliance, ease of consumption of oral dose are forcing drug manufacturers to develop oral solid dosage products more than other dosage forms of drugs with very specific properties. The introduction of functional excipients has tremendously increased drug formulator’s capabilities to develop drugs from APIs which are poorly soluble. To develop a sustained release, controlled release or prolonged release dosage formulation of an existing drug, Excipients have played a major role. They have not only made a sustained release, controlled release or prolonged release dosage feasible but also increased revenue generated from a particular drug.
Industry analysts have forecasted that the global pharmaceutical excipients market will grow by CAGR of 6.53% through 2021 to reach $7.7B by the year 2022.
Due to an increase in demand for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical drugs and also the presence of a different type of excipient manufacturers in this region, North America holds the biggest share in the pharmaceutical excipient market. Europe holds the second position whereas major share followed by Asia and Rest of the World. Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing region where emerging countries like China and India are big players due to cheap labour, increased outsourcing of inorganic and organic chemicals manufacturing and increasing governmental spending on the health care sector.

Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients

We can expect the Global Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients market to reach $198.8 billion by 2022 with a CAGR of 6.4%. Patents of prominent drugs are expiring, the government are taking initiatives and increasing investment in the pharma industry, regional penetration at a global level and increasing aged population are some of the prominent factors that are driving the market growth of pharmaceutical API industry. Strict validation of drugs and stringent safety guidelines worked out by WHO and fragmented market segment are major factors that are hampering the API market growth.
The generic drugs or non-branded drug segment of the industry witnessed substantial growth and occupy the largest market share during the forecast period. The main reasons are rising healthcare expense, government support & prominence on generics to reduce healthcare costs and decreasing pipelines of global pharmaceutical drugs. The Asia Pacific is expected to hold the highest market share during the forecast period, the reason being low operation costs and high investments in research and development segment. The increasing cost of skilled labour and energy are the most significant factors that are forcing the market in European countries to move their base to developing countries, such as India.

Pharma Trademark Registration

Why trademark registration is important and it's Process

Trademark is an intellectual property right, it provides legal protection names, symbols, devices, or words registered and that will be used in connection with a good or service.
A trademark not only offers its owner, the exclusive right to use the mark, also empowers the owner to prevent any other person or organization from using a same or similar mark that can be confusing for the general public or which affects the status of a brand attached to that mark. Its not only spelling but the phonetic similarity is also considered while awarding trademark registration.

When it comes to pharma industry a brand name means a lot. A similar brand name can affect the sale of the product and also hampers company image. If a company gets its brands registered, it can ensure that no other company can bring a product in the market with a similar name ( Spelling or phonetic )

On the other hand, entering into the market with a brand not registered can be perilous. There might be an existing brand with the same spelling or phonetic similarity. In this situation, one has to surrender product with a similar name, change brand name, change packaging, change promotional material and all this affects not only business but the image of a company is also hampered along with financial losses.

Pharma Trademark

Trademark Registration Process

Here we discuss steps involved in registration of a trademark:
  1. An application for registration of trademarks is filed at the Head office or a branch office of the Trade Marks Registry at a place where the business of the applicant is situated.
  2. Application is then examined on grounds of whether the mark is capable of distinguishing applicant’s goods or services, whether it is prohibited for registration under any law for the time being in force, whether the registration of the relevant mark is likely to confuse.
  3. All applications are examined at the Head Office of the TRADE MARKS Registry at Mumbai.
  4. The registrar of trademarks then decides whether the application should be accepted for registration or rejected.
  5. Once an application is accepted, the proposed mark along with other details as in application is published in the Trade Marks Journal, an official gazette of the Trade Marks Registry, which is hosted weekly on the official website.
  6. Any person can oppose such mark within four months from the date of publication in the journal.
  7. Once objected or opposed, opposition legal proceeding is conducted at the respective office of the Trade Marks Registry.
  8. A copy of the notice of opposition is served to the applicant of the mark.
  9. The applicant must file a counter statement within two months, failing which the application is treated as abandoned.
  10. Based on opposition and counter-statement, the registrar calls both parties with pieces of evidence for hearing on a particular date.
  11. If the registrar is satisfied with the evidence of the applicant, a trademark is granted, if not, his applications get rejected.
  12. The verdict of the registrar is appealable to the Intellectual Property Appellate Board.

Why Trademark is Important

  1. It acts as an effective communication tool: It gives a message about your brand, your company, your reputation, products and services.
  2. It makes easy for a customer to find you: The marketplace is crowded and it’s hard to distinguish your business from your competitors. Trademarks/brands are an efficient commercial communication tool to capture customer attention and make your business, products and services stand out.
  3. It allows a business to effectively utilise the Internet and social media: Your brand is the first thing customers enter into a search engine or social media platform (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest) when looking for your products and services.
  4. It's a valuable asset: Trademarks can appreciate over time. The more your business reputation grows, the more valuable your brand will be.
Most importantly when a trademark is registered your doctors and patients get the feeling that you have planned to stay in this pharma industry forever and investing to ensure that no one can duplicate your brand or image.
Share your names for trademark search for no charge or submit your product name like Ciprofloxacin Tablets along with your company name and we will provide you with good Brand name options.

Pharma Third Party Manufacturing

PHARMA THIRD PARTY MANUFACTURING

Businesses today grow by working on what they do the best and outsource the rest. Third-Party Manufacturing is must in present business scenario. It allows companies to focus on core competencies, Third Party Manufacturers offer several advantages which includes lower costs, flexibility, expertise access and less capital.

Here are some examples of how businesses can use Pharma Third Party Manufacturing for achieving success and satisfied clients, setting the required working model and developing a delivering organisation.

PLAN OF ACTION

Generally, our plan of action before finalising products for outsourcing is Cost associated and Certifications manufacturer got like WHO, GMP, GLP however there is a lot to consider.

STARTING A COMPANY

Launching a pharma marketing company should be done after comprehensive planning in terms of Company name, Business model, experience, product range, manufacturer selection, the trademark of brands, registration of company name & logo, GST number and drug license.

COST TO MAINTAIN PRODUCT PORTFOLIO

A cost is associated in the form of finish goods inventory and packing material inventory. When we manufacture our products based on third party manufacturing, the manufacturer takes an order of minimum 50,000 tablets or capsules because smaller batches cost more and not economically viable to both manufacturer and marketing company.
With an increase in the product range, the cost of maintaining the product portfolio also increases. This is an important aspect of pharma third party manufacturing which should be kept in mind.

ESTABLISHING A WAREHOUSE, GST NUMBER, DRUG LICENSE

For invoicing and storing products it's mandatory to have a warehouse with drug license and GST number for taxation purpose. Without any of these three, you may get your products manufactured but cannot be invoiced. Drug license is a permission granted by the Drug Licensing authority under Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 1940 of a state. For obtaining drug licensing you may visit your state drug licensing authority and ask them for procedure and documents required,

LAUNCH TIMING

We suggest to kick start a new company with products which does not belong to any speciality division can be started in January. Diseases in India normally on the peak during July and August, infections starts to increase from Holi and goes down by Deepawali. Starting a business in January will company time to settle down and promote its products, by the time season is at its peak.
For third party manufacturing, this winter season is conducive as there is less demand for medicine hence the manufacturer has time to invest in your products.
